Obituary for George H Faber

GEORGE HENRY FABER YOUNGSTOWN - George Henry Faber, 86, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 30, 2016, at Hospice House. George was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Sharon, Pa., a son of the late Ralph and Mary Serb Faber, and came to Youngstown in 1979 after living 16 years in Brookfield.
George graduated from Sharon High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Faber worked for Westinghouse Electric for 33 years, retiring in 1984. He founded Casaloma Gardens on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown in 1959, and had the first color television in a tavern on the city’s west side.
George owned and operated the business with the help of his sons to the present day. George was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed bowling and golf, and recorded a hole-in-one at Tam-O’Shanter Golf Course. He loved sports and was a member of the Saxon Club, where he helped sponsor many sporting events.
A devoted family man, Mr. Faber enjoyed travel with his family and he loved planning family dinners with them. George leaves his wife of 64 years, Joann Taylor Faber, whom he married in Aug. of 1951; five sons, Gary A. (Debra) Faber of Austintown, Dale R. (Julie) Faber of Austintown, Donald G. (Jennifer) Faber of Fort Myers, Fla., George D. (Janet) Faber of Austintown, and Daniel J. Faber of Youngstown; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Donald Jr., Frank, and Ava. Two brothers, Alfred and Jack Faber, and two grandchildren Kristopher Faber and Jaclyn Faber, are deceased. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Committal services with military honors will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown.
