Obituary for Donald J Marshall

DONALD J. MARSHALL YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown for Donald J. Marshall, 86, of Park Vista Retirement Community, who died early Tuesday morning at his residence. Donald was born May 15, 1929, in Youngstown, one of 13 children born to the late Charles and Bessie Hawker Marshall, and had lived in this area until moving to Harpers Ferry, W.Va. in the late 80s, and returned to this area in 2011. He served in the U.S. Navy as a seabee and was a self-employed building contractor for over 60 years.
Donald was a former member of the Highway Tabernacle Church, where he served as a deacon and ministered at hospitals and prisons. He built homes for Habitat for Humanity and also taught the building trade at Scholl Choffin. Donald was a 32nd degree Mason and enjoyed writing Christian poetry which was copyrighted and widely distributed. Donald was a very outgoing person and he never knew a stranger.
He will be sadly missed by his former wife and the mother of his children, Lois Marshall; two daughters, Linda (Dino) Prassinos and Krista (Dan) Spiker, both of Austintown; a son, James Marshall of Akron; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his second wife, Barbara Diffee, whom he married June 17, 1989, and who died Oct. 19, 2007; a daughter, JoAnn Walters; and his siblings, Charles, Dorothy, Ed, Raymond, Alfred, Fred, Bob, Betty, Jack, Edith, Sally and Jerry.
Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
