Obituary for Dorothy M Mavar

Services for Dorothy M. "Dot" Mavar, 98, of Willoughby, will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Mrs. Mavar passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Heartland of Willoughby. Born February 5, 1918 in Barnesboro, Pa., she was a longtime resident of Harrisburg, Pa. and then Euclid, before moving to Willoughby 18 years ago. She was a member of East Shore United Methodist Church in Euclid, The Wickliffe Senior Center, The JFK Senior Center in Eastlake and the Lake County YMCA West End Branch in Willoughby. Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and members at the senior centers and the Laketran drivers, who were always kind and helped her maintain her independence. Mrs. Mavar retired from the former Pick-N-Pay supermarket, as a head cashier. Survivors are her daughter-in-law, Susan Mavar of Willoughby; grandchildren, Lisa (Robert) Stanich of Mentor and David (Brandi) Mavar of Willowick and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Hannah, Gates, Ben and Logan. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony "Dutch" Mavar in 1993; and her son, Donald Mavar in 2005. Her brothers, Charles and Jack Weakland and sisters, Violet O''''Brien and Gloria Walker are also deceased. The family encourages contributions to the Lake County YMCA West End Branch, 37100 Euclid Avenue, Willoughby, OH 44094 in recognition of all of her friends in the arthritis water class.
