Obituary for Susan J Guard

                                                                                                                                                                    Susan Jane Guard, 58, of Mentor, passed away March 7, 2016, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. Born March 25, 1957, in Oakland, Md., she was a lifetime Lake County resident. Susie taught three generations of family and friends that those with disabilities have as much value, purpose and love for life as anyone else. Susie graduated from Broadmoor School and worked at Deepwood Industries-Willoughby Branch for 40 years. Susie loved bowling and adventures with her girlfriends and caretakers, spending time with her family, taking care of her countless newborn nieces and nephews, country music and more. She joyfully represented the good work of the Friends of Deepwood at her brother''s annual fundraiser, The Steve Guard Memorial Golf Tournament, which benefits the organization. She was the dear sister of David Guard (Jane Lewis) of Mentor, Robert (Nancy) Guard of Castalian Springs, Tenn., Linda Surgeon of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Martin Guard of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Kathy Guard of Willoughby; loving aunt of Stacey (Charles) Langal of Willoughby, Nicole (Chris) Bollinger of Mentor, Rachel (Anthony) Trem of Willoughby, Elizabeth (Neil) Sellers of Mentor, Teresa (Michael) Dugger of Mentor, Stephen Guard of Eastlake, Jessica Guard (Elliott Tomes) of New York City, N.Y., Mikki (Frank) Palumbo of Milford, Mich., John (Donna) Demarco of Clarksville, Tenn., Lea (Michael) Rowe of Castalian Springs, Tenn., Rick (Sarah) Guard of Spring Hill, Tenn., Robert C. (Brittney) Guard of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Angela Demarco of Lubbock, Texas, Thomas Guard of Florida and David (Bree) Guard of Cleveland; and lifelong friends and roommates, Julie Gallagher of Mentor, Jen Defrench of Mentor and Kim Jonke of Mentor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald W. and Virginia Faye (nee Humberson) Guard; brother, Stephen L. Guard; sister-in-law, Carla R. Guard; and brother-in-law, Lou Surgeon. Family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, where a funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday.
