Obituary for Howard C Johnson

HOWARD C. JOHNSON STRUTHERS - Howard C. Johnson, 81, died Sunday evening, Feb. 21, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Howard was born Aug. 6, 1934, in Struthers, a son of Axel and Elizabeth Ruddock Johnson. A lifelong resident of Struthers, Howard was a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1952. He worked at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
He was honorably discharged in August of 1959, and returned to the area. Howard worked as a machinist for Rex Machine and then Packard Electric. He retired from Packard Electric in 1999, after 30 years of service. A trombonist, Howard played in the Struthers High School Marching Band, U.S. Army Base Field Band Post 423 and the Warren Junior Military Band, formerly known as the VFW Band. Howard was a member of the former Struthers Presbyterian Church, now known as the Struthers Parkside Church.
He served as elder and was a member of the Upper Room Sunday school class. Howard enjoyed wood working and created and designed many beautiful items that will always be treasured. He leaves his wife, the former Kathryn Boyer, whom he married July 16, 1960; and two daughters, Julie L. Johnson of Poland and Beverly A. (Scott) Rine of Canton. Besides his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Davis; and one grandson, Axel Charles.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, with Pastor James Berkebile officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield. Friends will be received Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
