Obituary for Velma Posterli

VELMA GONCY POSTERLI AUSTINTOWN - Velma Goncy Posterli, 91, passed away late Sunday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown after a long and fulfilling life. Velma was born June 20, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Michael and Julia Szoke Goncy, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Chaney High School, and in her younger years worked at U.S. Steel and at the General Electric Mazda Lamp Plant before dedicating the remainder of her life to raising and caring for her family. Velma was a member of the Hungarian United Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, arts and crafts, flower gardening, cooking, baking, and she loved her animals.
Mrs. Posterli leaves four children, Eugene M. (Gerry) Posterli of Boardman, Diana Jean (Denny) Bernard of Oklahoma, Louis W. (Deborah) Posterli of Austintown, and Barbara Marie Posterli of Austintown; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Goncy of Austintown and Mary Powell of Boardman. Velma’s husband of nearly 69 years, Louis Posterli, whom she married May 11, 1946, passed away April 16, 2015. A grandson, Brian Posterli, two brothers, Michael and Bill Goncy, and four sisters, Pearl Genetta, Betty Bishop, Helen Green, and Mary Bisker, are also deceased.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Funeral services will take place Thursday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
