Obituary for Betty Mae Johnson

Mrs. Betty Johnson made her transition from this earth to her just reward on January 12, 2016 at Akron City Hospital. She was a life time resident of Akron, Ohio. Betty worked at Kent State University until she retired from her supervisor position in 1972. She was a faithful member of the Greater Galilee Baptist Church in Barberton, Ohio, under the leadership of Bishop Emmitt Jason Lee III. She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. Smith Sr. and Arie Smith; brother, William E. Smith Jr.; sisters, Earline Kelly, Alfreda (Robert) Meadows; sons, Robert and Anthony Johnson; grandsons, Steven Johnson and Maurice Bethune. She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Jasper Johnson Jr., Darwin (Yvonne) Johnson, Kevin (Andrea) Edwards, Perry Keaton all of Akron Ohio; daughters, Cynthia (Pastor Leroy) Bray, Anna Thornton, both of Richmond, Va., Arnisa Johnson of Detroit, Michigan, Arnita Griffith of Akron, Ohio; Goddaughter, Lakeia Neely; adopted children, Bishop Emmitt and Monica Lee III; devoted sister-in-law, Paulette Gamble; twenty grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mother Johnson loved her family and friends and will be missed for her wisdom, sound advice and laughter. Celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, at 12 p.m. at Greater Gaililee Baptist Church, 70 Huston St., W. Barberton, OH 44203, Bishop Emmett Jason Lee III eulogizing. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 881 Warrington Rd., Akron, Ohio 44320.
