Obituary for Richard Frank Gifford

Richard Frank Gifford, 85, passed away on December 31, 2015. He was born in Akron on September 16, 1930 to the late Frank and Mary Gifford. He graduated from North High School where he played basketball and football. Richard served as a U.S. Army Sergeant with the 74th FA. BN. HQ Btry. from 1948-1952 in Landshut, Germany, Pinder Kaserne. He retired from General Tire. Richard belonged to many organizations including VFW Post 3747, American Legion 0281, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2736, Slovak J Club, and Wolf Ledges A.C. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Richard lived life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carole; sons, Frank Gifford, Mike (Kim) Gifford; daughter, Cindy (Ted) Quick; brother, Don (Lois) Gifford of Dallas, Texas; sister, Sandra (Tom) Herceg; grandchildren, Paul Quick, Crystal (Mark) Vanadia, Hannah Gifford, and Michaela Gifford; great-grandchildren, Andy, Summer, Nick, and Sam; many nieces, nephews, extended family and many, many great friends. Family and friends may call on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 to 12, followed by a 12 noon funeral service, with Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
