Obituary for LeRoy M. Kutz
LeRoy M. Kutz, Sr., 93 0f 100 Brownstone Drive, Hershey former postmaster of Lyons station, died July 8 in the Hershey Medical Center. Services were held Monday from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home Inc., F1eetwood. Interment took place in Hope cemetery, Kutztown.
Born in Lyons Station, he was the son of the late Moses H. and Mary (Diener) Kutztown. His first wife, Clara M.(Kulp) Kutz died in 1951.
With the exception of four years of employment in Philadelphia, he resided in Lyons Station until the age of 88.
He was appointed postmaster of Lyon Station by the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, serving until 1973. As an active citizen, he founded the committee to change the status of the village of Lyons to a borough. He was the major stock holder and president of the former privately owned Lyons Water Company and was proprietor of the Kutz Store, a family enterprise founded in 1879 until 1947. Mr. Kutz was a member of Christ (DeLong) United Church of Christ, Bowers. and a former member of its consistory. He was a charter member of the Joseph J. Hiester Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, Reading: was a member of the Wyomissing Club, Reading: served on the Hope Cemetery Board, Kutztown, and was a mcmbcr of the National Association of Retired Civil Employees. He was educated at Kutztown Normal School, now Kutztown Universily, and Pierce Business College, Philadelphia.
Surviving are a daughter, N. Marjorie, wife of Edwin K. Zechman, Hershey: a son, the Rev. Dr. LeRoy M. Kutz Jr., Sarasota, Fla.: four grandchildren: Kathleen Zechmnn, Randall, Mass.: Edwin K. Zechman Jr., in Pennsylvania: the Rev. Rebecca Kutz-Marks, in Michigan, and LeRoy M. Kutz III, in Illinois, and five great-grandchildren.
