Obituary for Douglas Hunter Strieby

Douglas Hunter Strieby, 67, of Lenexa, Kan., passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, brother, uncle, friend and servant of his fellow man.

Doug was born July 3, 1945, in Denver, Colo., to Uel and Helen (Hubbs) Strieby. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Wilbur and Ima Jean Lindstrom. He graduated from Springdale High School in Springdale, Ark., and earned his Associate's Degree from Johnson County Community College and his Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Avila University.

He served as a police officer with the Springdale, Ark., Police Department for five years and as a Deputy Sheriff for the Johnson County Sheriff's Department for 32 years. Doug loved the Scouting program and earned the Silver Beaver Award and was honored with the James E. West Fellowship Award. Doug provided many years of dedicated service to the Salvation Army through their Emergency Disaster Services. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents and aunt and uncle. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Pat Strieby of the home; son, Grant Strieby and Grant's girlfriend Amanda Norwood of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Ann Jones and husband Allen, who reside in Vero Beach, Fla., and Maui, Hawaii; and by several nieces and nephews. A private family inurnment will be Saturday, July 28, at Olathe Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Salvation Army, 420 E. Santa Fe St., Olathe, Kan.
