Obituary for Catherine Towner

Death of Catherine W. Towner.

Catherine Williams Towner was born October 9, 1836 at Tippecanoe, Ind., and died June 22, 1917, of heart trouble, at the family home, four miles east, and one north of Olathe. The funeral service was held Monday afternoon, June 25, at 2:00 o''clock at the home. Rev. A. B. Appleby, officiating.

Mrs. Towner was a member of the Methodist church since early girlhood. Catherine Williams was married April 22, 1861, to the late John Towner at Fairbury, Livingston, county, Ills. To this union fifteen children were born, of whom eleven are living, together with twenty-six grand children and twenty great grand children. Surviving her are: Ephraim Towner and Mrs. Rhoda Furry, east of Olathe; John, Naco, Ariz. ; Warren, Olathe;- Olathe;- Henry, Nesa, Idaho; William, Salem, Mo.; Frank, Tyrone, Okla,; Nora, at the old home; Loren, Santa Anna; Calif.; Ben, Liberal, and Nathen, De Soto. Her .sister, Mrs. Eliza Towner of Tyrone, Okla., and her brother, John W. Williams of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, also survive her.

Mrs. "Towner came with her husband and four children from Illinois in 1864, to the home place. She was one of the true pioneer women of the county, and was held in high esteem by all who were privileged to know her. Her kindness and hospitalit to all was characteristic of her motherly nature. She was truly a lover of nature, and took a great pleasure and pride in her many varieties of flowers In her garden. The children present at the funeral were: Ephraim, Mrs. Furry, Warren, Frank, Nora, Ben, and Nathen.
