Obituary for Caroline G. Adams
Caroline Goodyear Adams, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, died November 30 in Cuyahoga Falls. She was 98 years old.
Caroline (Carrie) was born January 14, 1917 in Carlisle, Pa. to Charles Albert and Maud Baker Goodyear. There, she and her two sisters, known locally as the "Goody Girls," enjoyed a rich and loving childhood. Upon graduating Carlisle High School in 1934, she attended Dickinson College, where she earned her degree in Liberal Arts. In 1940, she married her childhood sweetheart, Harold Elwood Adams, eventually settling in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
There they spent the remainder of their lives raising their five children to be as loving, devoted to their families, and independently minded as they were. Carrie always said that raising her children well was the most important contribution she could make to the world.
In addition to motherhood, Carrie was a vibrant member of her community, spending many years volunteering at Akron Children''s Hospital, where she particularly enjoyed caring for infants. Throughout their lives, Carrie and Harold enjoyed traveling, taking their children on road trips across the country, and later, visiting all seven continents. Their lives were a love affair and an adventure.
Upon Harold''s death in 2009, Carrie remained in their home and continued to serve as the center of her family while pursuing her love of crossword puzzles, birds, mystery novels, and sitting on her deck. Her subtle wit, her dedication to the lives and concerns of those around her, her intelligence, optimism, and tenacity will continue to inspire all those who knew her. We will miss her dearly.
Carrie is survived by her sister, Anne McKellar; her five children, Pendery (Joel Clark), Charles (Theda), Lucinda (David Derwort), Harold (Dona), and Scott (Deborah); 11 grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, extended family members and countless friends, acquaintances, and caregivers.
