Maxine Shumar
87 of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her children. Maxine was born in Cambridge, OH the daughter of the late Franklin and Ivah (Riddle) Pifer. She retired from Washington High School in 1994. Maxine loved to travel and watch sports. She was a faithful member of Grace U.C.C. in Massillon and was a devoted hospice volunteer. She was an active member of the Massillon Women''s Club. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Steve Shumar in 1989 and three sisters. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joanne (John) Jones, Larry (Mary) Shumar and David (Sue) Shumar; her grandchildren, John, Michael, Joseph and Matthew Shumar, Josh (Jill) Jones, Marisa Jones, and Laura (Tom) Cantrell; six great grandchildren; and several special friends and caregivers. A Celebration of Maxine''s life will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
