Obituary for Richard H Measmer

RICHARD ''DICK'' H. MEASMER AUSTINTOWN - A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, at the Zion Lutheran Church for Richard H. Measmer, 88, who passed away Saturday evening, Nov. 14, 2015. He was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of the late William and Nellie (Smith) Measmer. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950, and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was stationed in Germany and was a recipient of the Army Occupational Medal. Richard married Mary Darlene Davis on Feb. 14, 1955. Mary passed away on Feb. 19, 2010. Richard was a sterotyper at The Youngstown Vindicator for 33 years and retired in 1976. He also was a school bus driver for the Austintown School District from 1977 to 1997. He was a life member of the Zion Lutheran Church, member of the Youngstown Saxon Club, a Cub Scout leader for 20 years, and a band parent former president. He loved the Austintown Senior Center.

Richard is survived by his children, Bradley (Joyce) Measmer of Monument, Colo., Douglas Measmer of Austintown, Stephen Measmer of Bellerica, Mass., Rebecca “Becky” (Timothy) Bakos, and Laurel Measmer; his two sisters, Laurabell Buckham of Providence, R.I. and Joan Amreihn of Boardman; his brother, James Measmer of Sykesville, Md.; his 15 grandchildren; and his eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, William Measmer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church. Friends and family may call on Sunday, Nov. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
