Obituary for Nanette Dawson

SEBRING – Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Canfield Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St. in Canfield, for Nanette Dawson, 90, of Copeland Oaks, formerly of Canfield, who died at Crandall Medical Center Thursday afternoon.

Nanette was born May 25, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Robert and Lucille McIntosh McMahan, and graduated from South High School. It was there she met her husband, Carl “Gene” Dawson, and they were married Nov. 17, 1945, 70 years ago this month.

Nanette had been a secretary for the former Strouss-Hirschberg for several years prior to her marriage and later had worked for the U.S. Postal Service, Canfield Branch. She was a member of the Canfield United Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed canning and baking and had won several ribbons at the Canfield Fair.

Besides her husband, Nanette leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Janice C. and Rev. Jay Wolin of Davenport, Iowa; a son, Richard C. Dawson of Dunedin, Fla.; a brother, Robert McMahan of Burlington, Vt.; a sister, Barbara Wise of North Lima; three grandchildren, Olivia, Will and Kyle; and two great-granddaughters, Scarlett and Juniper.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Lane Family Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel, 65 N. Broad St., and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
