Obituary for Benjamin Jones

Benjamin D. Jones, 86 of Chardon passed away October 30, 2015 at his residence. Born July 18, 1929 in Furnace Run, PA to Benjamin and Edna Belle (nee: Hawk) Jones, he had been a longtime area resident. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Ben married Jean Grove on Dec. 15, 1950 in Homer City, PA. She preceded him in death May 11, 2005. He worked and retired from the GM Coit Road Plant in Cleveland. Ben was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. In his younger days he played softball. More recently, he enjoyed playing corn-hole at the senior center and against family and friends. Ben was a member of the Morning Star Friends Church Choir and enjoyed traveling to area nursing homes to sing and entertain the residents. Survivors include his children, Debbie (Paul) Soltis of Chardon, Benjamin H. (Denise) of Willowick, Mark (Debbie) of Anchorage, AK and Robin (John) Finley of Chardon; grandchildren, Brittany (William) Bluhm of Euclid, Benny Jones of Willowick and Danielle (Nate) Walton of Savannah, GA, Raquel (Ben) Griffis of Mayfield Hts. and Renee Prosen of Marion, OH; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hannah Bluhm; siblings Laverna Reid, Glenavee Jones, Gilbert (Janet) Jones, Barb (Tom) Tuck, Roy (Jo Ann) Jones, Larry (Shirley Mirauntz) Jones, Terry (Kirby) Jones, Bill (Peggy) Jones, Cindy (Richard) Spink and Vernon (Carole) Jones; sister-in-laws, Betty Ann Jones and Elaine Jones and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings Wendell and Bob Jones. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (On Rt. 44, 500'' south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon, OH. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015 at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2014 at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Twp. Donations suggested to Morning Star Friends Church
