Obituary for Herbert Skerratt

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - Herbert V. Skerratt Jr., 77, passed away at his residence on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, with his family at his side.

Herbert was born June 5, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of Herbert V. and Mildred Fausnaught Skerratt Sr.

Herbert retired from General Motors as a tow motor operator and also spent 23 years in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Liberty Township, and the William Farr Masonic Lodge No. 672 F&AM, where he was a 32nd degree Mason. He enjoyed golfing, and was on the Argus Lodge No. 545 Golf League in Canfield, loved to travel with his wife, square dance and motorcycles.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Sandra L. Hoban, whom he married Sept. 13, 1958; his daughter, Rhonda Knez; grandchildren John A. Knez, Jessica N. Knez, Joshua Everett and Melissa R. Urey; and a great-grandchild, August Anne Everett.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Herbert V. “Sonny” Skerratt III; sister Judith Cline; and brother Robert Skerratt.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 11:30 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will take place at 6:45 p.m., and also on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Herbert will be laid to rest at Greenhaven Memorial Cemetery, with military honors.
