Dr. Robert James Fawcett 1944 - 2015 Obituary Condolences Dr. Robert James Fawcett Obituary Dr. Robert James Fawcett Dr. Robert James Fawcett, 89, of Bath, Ohio, died August 26, 2015. Robert was born to John and Bertha Fawcett in Walbridge, Ohio. Robert joined the Navy in 1944 at age 18, serving in the SeaBees during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. He enrolled at Bowling Green State University, graduating with a bachelor''''s degree in Chemistry in 1950. In 1955 he was awarded his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University, and promptly joined BF Goodrich, remaining there until his retirement in 1985 as VP of Research and Development. He was instrumental in the creation of EPIC (Edison Polymer Innovation Corporation), and served as its first President from 1985 until 1990. Robert was an active member of the Grandview United Methodist Church, and a member of the Harvard Club, Franklin Club, American Chemical Club, Bluecoats, and the Akron Rubber Division. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Award of Council from ACESS He loved music, reading, travel, nature, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, John and Bertha Fawcett; siblings, Cora, Esther, Joe, Katy and twin brother Richard; and his son, John. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alberta; daughter, Deborah (Eric) Peckins; son, David (Lynn) Fawcett; daughter-in-law, Judith Fawcett-Au; grandchildren, Kristina, Melissa, Jennifer, Shana (Jason), Sarah (Jonathon), Robert (Sarah), Matthew (Cameo); five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; special friend, Mary Carr, and many loving friends. Friends may call Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221 and one hour before the service at the Grandview United Methodist Church, 2315 Phelps Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223. Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Paula Koch officiating. Interment follows at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grandview United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
