Obituary for George Bush Clark

George H. Bush Clark, age 103, husband of the late Doris Lobdell Clark and lifelong resident of Ansonia, entered eternal rest on May 15th. Bush was born in Ansonia on July 11th, 1911, son of the late Leonard & Grace Bush Clark. After graduation from Ansonia High School in 1928, he was employed by Anaconda American Brass Company, where he worked with his future wife, Doris Lobdell. Bush graduated from Quinnipiac College in 1953. After enlisting in the Army in 1944, he proudly served his country in the Pacific campaign in both the Philippines and New Guinea. On May 6, 1950, Bush married Doris and remained her best friend and partner until her passing in 2011. After retiring from the American Brass in 1974 with 46 years of service, he and Doris traveled the country extensively, driving across the USA and Canada several times. In 2006 they moved to Crosby Commons Assisted Living in Shelton. He was a lifelong member of Christ Church, Ansonia, serving in many roles including: choirboy and soloist, Building Committee, Vestry, Treasurer, Verger, and with other retirees, formed the “Senior Ecclesiastical Work Force”. In addition, he was a dedicated member of the Eagle Hose Company 6, where he was a fire fighter, driver, past Captain, auditor, and marched in parades. The Eagles honored him in 2012 as the longest serving member of 80 years. Bush was also a Boy Scout leader of Troop 4 Ansonia. He served as chairman of the Health & Safety committees and was recognized for his numerous contributions with the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver award. Bush was an avid volunteer for numerous organizations, including Derby Historical Society, Junior Achievement, ACT / Spooner House. He served on the Board of Directors of Pine Grove Cemetery and the Valley United Way. In 1991, he and his wife, Doris, were presented with the Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award, given by the Valley United Way. Both he and his wife, Doris,were avid members of both the Valley Ecumenical Choir and the Derby Senior Chorus. Always willing to help others in any way, he was a blood donor for the American Red Cross, donating more than 5 gallons. In his spare time he was an enthusiastic gardener, raising flowers and vegetables. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary Ellen, who died at birth, his wife Doris (2011) and his brother L. Gilmore (1974). He is survived by his children George A Clark of Worcester MA, and Karen Minichino and her husband, Robert of Leesburg VA, his grandson, Brian, granddaughter, Cathy and her husband, Brandon. He is also survived by his nephew, Charles Clark and his extended family, and a cousin, Louise Marshall of Biddeford, Maine.
