Obituary for Thomas Niddel

NORTH LIMA - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, for Thomas A. Niddel Sr., 82, who died late Friday evening at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center.

Thomas was born June 15, 1933, in Youngstown, the son of Milton and Amy (Shalklock) Niddel.

He attended Hubbard High School and worked as a steel worker for Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 30 years until retiring in 1983. Thomas was also head of grievances for the union.

Thomas enjoyed going to Mountaineer, gardening, and most of all, fishing.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Palace, whom he married May 7, 1955; two daughters, Debbie Harkleroad of North Lima and Mary Ann (Larry) Kimble of Canfield; four sons, Thomas Jr. (Cindy) Niddel of Newnan, Ga., Timothy Niddel of Poland, Robert A. Niddel (fiancée Amy Yurco) and James Niddel (Debbie Owens); sister Florance Gingrich of Austintown; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jack and Harry Niddel; and sisters Ollie Stervand and Bess Cedar.

Family and friends may call on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
