Stephen Budai

Stephen Budai, 96, passed away peacefully July 12, 2015. He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on March 13, 1919 and moved to Akron, Ohio at an early age. Following 42 years of service with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, he moved to Venice, Florida in 1981 where he enjoyed his retirement years. His work at Ohio Bell was interrupted in 1942 when he joined the Army Signal Corps and served as an instructor in Tampa, Florida and in the China-Burma-India Theater in World War II. He received a Unit Bronze Star for his service. He served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Telephone Employees Credit Union and was past Program Chairman of the Telephone Pioneers of America. In Florida, he was on the Bay Indies Covenant Church Council and was a past treasurer. He also served on the Board of the Bay Indies Home Owners Association and was involved in many service clubs and activities there. He loved swimming, biking, horseshoes, yard work and just puttering. But, above all, he enjoyed his 62 years of marriage and square dancing with his wife Claudia.

Preceded in death by Claudia and granddaughter, Angie Swords, he will be greatly missed by sons, Michael (Virginia) and David (Janet) Budai; daughter, Joyce (David) Swords; grandchildren, Kristin (Lee) Rawlette, Kathy (Mark) Walters, and Tim (Becca) Swords; great-grandchildren, Madison, Alyssa and Adam Walters, Ty and Cody Rawlette, and Jackson Swords.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
