Obituary for Vester Mixon

AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., for Vester M. Mixon Jr., 70, who died Sunday afternoon at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center’s emergency room.

Vester, known as “Tex,” was born March 22, 1945, in Weatherford, Texas, a son of the late Vester M. and Lucille Brinkley Mixon Sr., and came to this area in July of 1986.

Vester had served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1986 from active duty and 20 years of civilian federal service for the Department of Defense, retiring in 2007. He had also volunteered for the Belmont Avenue VA clinic. Vester was a member of the Austintown Community Church, the Youngstown Dart Association and a former member of the American Legion. Vester loved his family and his country and was proud to have served for his country.

Vester leaves his wife, the former Jacklyn Jensen, whom he married April 30, 1970; two daughters, Kimberly Hawthorne and her husband, Leon, and Rebecca Mixon, both of Austintown; two brothers, Marion “Butch” Mixon of Copperas Cove, Texas and Arvil “Ray” Mixon of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four sisters, Cynthia Beam of Jonas Ridge, N.C., Beverly Hill of Burleson, Texas, Sandra Scott of Mira, La. and Melinda Ketchum of Fayettville, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday the at the funeral home.
