Obituary for Thelma L Rhodes

THELMA L. (FETTY) RHODES

“Together Again”

MINERAL RIDGE - Thelma L. (Fetty) Rhodes, 95, born on Dec. 19, 1919, in Brady, W.Va., went home to be with her Heavenly Father on July 4, 2015.

She was a daughter of the late Silas Roy Fetty and Louise Fetty Faulkner.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Dewey Rhodes; her sister, Alice Pearl Fetty; and her brother, Joseph Leroy Fetty.

She is survived by her three loving children, Joyce Swaney, Janice Ambrose, and Robert Dewey Sr. (Connie) Rhodes; eight grandchildren, Chalmer Jr. (Tracy) Swaney, Bridgette Swaney, Deanna (James) Lanzo, Harry O. (Vickie) Ambrose, Rob Ambrose, Robert Dewey Jr. (Heidi) Rhodes, Brandi (Steve) Suarez, and Daniel Rhodes; 16 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Thelma was an incredibly kind, gentle soul, who was dearly loved by all that knew her and will be deeply missed.

Thelma and her husband moved to Mineral Ridge in 1940, and were lifelong residents. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, actively serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and United Methodist Women, serving as president. She and her husband served as Youth Leaders where they inherited the name, “Thelma Lou and Dewey Too.” Thelma sang in the church choir, and more importantly had a deep love for the Lord and was a loyal and faithful servant.

Thelma retired from Weathersfield Local Schools as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 42 years and acted as a Noble Grande, and she was president of the 55 Plus Group. Thelma also delivered for Mobile Meals for 22 years and belonged to the same women’s card club for 65 years.

Thelma Lou was always a woman on the go and loved to travel. Some of her other interests and hobbies included fishing in Canada, with her family and friends, playing bingo and cards, and cooking, baking pies and brownies. She just loved life and her family in general.

Thelma’s family will not say “Good-Bye,” but prefers to say “Too-da-Loo until we meet again in Heaven!”

The family wishes to give a special thanks to Dr. Richard Catterlin and the entire staff at Humility of Mary Health Partners for their wonderful care and comfort over the past three years.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, and from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 8, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Niles-Canfield Road. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at noon. The eulogy will be given by the Rev. Ken Gifford.
