Obituary for James E Armstrong

 
 
Funeral services for James E. Armstrong, 89, will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home,  Painesville, where friends will be received from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm Monday.
Mr. Armstrong, a Painesville resident and formerly of Grand River was born on September 30, 1925 in Painesville.
He passed away on June 30, 2015 at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Twp.
Jim graduated from Harvey High School in 1948. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Wiley during World War II. His unit received a Presidential Citation for Valor during the battle of Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre.
James served as a former police chief for Grand River. He had worked for the former Diamond-Shamrock Corp. and retired as a Maintenance Co-ordinator for Lake Metro Parks.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post 7754 in Fairport Harbor and enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening, and was an avid Cleveland sports fan; but he loved the times he spent with his grandchildren most of all.
A loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather is survived by, sons,Tom (Darleen) Armstrong of Perry, Ken (Vickie) Armstrong of Virginia, George Armstrong of Florida; Daughters, Judith (Larry) Waterman of Pennsylvania, Sue (Bill) Thomas of Mentor; Grandchildren, Steve Armstrong, Tina Armstrong, Tim Mlatnik, Jennifer Mlatnik, Amy Hatcher, Marcie Campbell, Craig Thomas, Aaron Thomas, Brad Armstrong, Celeste Armstrong, Caitlin Armstrong, and Laurel Skaggs; 17 great grandchildren also surviving are brother, Fred (Judy) Armstrong of Painesville, sister, Anna Lansbury of Grand River, Long time companion, Gayleen Miller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Hood) Armstrong in 1998, son, Patrick, parents, Fred and Virginia (Fogle) Armstrong, brothers, Roger, Donald, and William

Interment will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland.
