AUSTINTOWN - Samuel G. “Sam” Patton, 76, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, June 23, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown following a brief illness.

Samuel was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of the late James H. and Marion Mitchell Patton, and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Patton was a 1958 graduate of South High School, and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 until 1963. He attended Chicago Technical School and Youngstown State University, and was a machinist and manufacturing engineer with United Engineering / Wean United. He worked for the company from 1963 until 1993, when he retired as an NC programmer. Since 1997, Sam worked part-time for Amers Hobby Shop. 

He was a member of the Tri-State Chapter of the Marine Corps League, was a volunteer for Ohio’s civil defense / disaster services, and served as a radiological defense officer from 1963 to 1978. 
Sam was a member of the former Our Lady of Hungary Church in Youngstown, where he served on the parish council, as it’s CCD principal, and as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a current member of St. Patrick Church in Youngstown.

Mr. Patton leaves his beloved wife of 55 years, Billie Jane Kopachy Patton, whom he married May 14, 1960; two daughters, Virginia Renee (Michael) Brembeck of Beavercreek and Christine Lynn (James) Cerimele of Youngstown; five grandchildren, Samuel (Alyssa) Brembeck, Leah Brembeck, Seth Brembeck, Jim Cerimele, and Jason Cerimele; and a brother, James C. (Kim) Patton of Mentor.

Two sisters, Diane and Bonnie Mae Patton, are deceased.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., SUNDAY, June 28, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on MONDAY (6/29) at the funeral home, and will continue at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.

Committal services with Marine Corps military honors will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown.

Sam’s family thanks the staff at St. E’s CVIC Unit, Dr. Pratherk Kakkasseril, and the staff at Briarfield Manor, for the kindness shown and care given to Sam and the Patton family during his illness.
