Obituary for Lorraine M Luman

“Together Again”

AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Lorraine Mae (Painter) Luman, 89, who died Wednesday afternoon at Omni Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in East Cleveland, Hurond Road Hospital, a daughter of Howard Eugene Painter and Hazel (Smith) Painter, and sister of Willird Painter (Bill), Junior Painter and Beverly Painter, whom all preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death, was Lorraine’s husband, George C. Luman, whom she married in May of 1948.

She was a 1944 graduate of Chesterland High School, and a majorette for the Great Lakes Geauga County Bertin Fair Marching Band.

Lorraine leaves behind three sons, George Howard (Elaine Harry) Luman of Bristolville, Timothy Alan (Sheryl) Luman of Mineral Ridge and Jeffrey Todd Luman of Austintown; three grandchildren, Ted, Zeke and Elizabeth Luman; and five great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was a homemaker, where she raised her three sons. She perfected her skill of sewing, in which she made clothes for her family and many household items for decorations around the house. She also enjoyed baking “the best” pastries, cookies and pies, homemade jams and jellies and cake decorations. Lorraine started a ladybug collection back in the 1970s, which grew over the years. Her favorite color was pink.

Lorraine and her husband attended the Wickliffe Christian Church for many years. She was also an associate member of the UAW Local 1714 Retired Workers Chapter. She had a bubbly personality, always thoughtful and friendly to everyone. She and her husband “Bud,” who retired from GM in 1989, were active members of the Chapter. Lorraine served as the Chapter’s Recreation chairwoman from 1995 to 2005, leading the members in songs and games on the many bus trips she organized to places such as Branson, Nashville, dinner theaters, casinos, fall foliage trips, covered bridges, Indians baseball games and many more. The Chapter’s annual picnics and Christmas dinner dances were also Lorraine’s responsibilities during those years (she kept Bud very busy!). Chapter members may well remember her note from Lorraine included in the retirees’ mailings.

Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
