Obituary for Mary Roth

AUSTINTOWN - Mary L. Roth, 81, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Hospice House, Poland.

Mary was born July 7, 1933, in Mount Pleasant, S.C., to parents Leslie and Mary (Tiencken) MacNeal.

Mary married Robert S. Roth on July 31, 1954, and together, they had two children and shared 50 years of marriage, until his passing on Aug. 18, 2004.

Mary graduated in 1955 from Newberry College, S.C., with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She was employed by the Austintown local schools as a teacher for 29 years, retiring in 1986.

Mary was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Austintown. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Chris) Thorndike of Austintown; son Stephen Roth of Austintown; brother Robert MacNeal of Hugh, S.C.; grandchildren Rebecca (Tim) Thorndike-Breeze, Elizabeth (Josh) Hawkins, Lezlie Thorndike, Robert (Julia) Thorndike; and great-grandchildren Emma and Henry Hawkins.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister.

Vistation will be held Monday, June 8, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 1 p.m.

Interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown in Mary’s memory.
