Obituary for John H. Moore

                                                                                                                                                                     John H. Moore, age 92, of Mentor, Willoughby and Painesville, passed away Tuesday May 12, 2015 at Brookdale Assisted Living (formerly known as Emeritus of Mentor). He was born Aug. 21, 1922 in West Wheeling, Ohio. Mr. Moore retired as the Director of Pupil services in the Willoughby-Eastlake School System. Prior to that his education career included Assistant Principal and coach for football, baseball and basketball. He was inducted into the Harvey High School Hall of Fame in 2005 for his contributions to the success of 1951 Harvey High School Football team. John graduated from Bridgeport High School class of 1940. He became a veteran of the US Army, serving as a Tank Commander. After marrying Vivian, he graduated from Kent State University, where he played basketball and football. As a junior quarterback, he established an all-time passing record and was considered the fourth best passer in the nation among small colleges. John is survived by his children, Linda (David) Mather, David (Michele) Moore and Cheryl Esparza; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Derek) Capretta, Melissa (Len) Bunsey, Michael (Dana) Jesko, Chris (Rachael) Adams, Jamie (Jeremy) Neurohr, Shawn (Hillary) Moore and Brian (Katie) Moore; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. John''s wife Vivian C. Moore preceded him in death Aug. 2, 2014. The family will receive friends at 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday May 30, 2015 at Brunner, Sanden, Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center,  Mentor. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the funeral home.
