Obituary for Deanna K Shockey

Deanna Kay Shockey, 68, of Painesville, passed away after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday May 9, 2015, at Western Reserve Hospice House in Cleveland. She was born October 29, 1946, in Philippi, West Virginia. "When you die, it doesn''t mean you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live." – Stuart Scott. Deanna was a Registered Nurse, graduating from Fairmont State University with her ADN in 1966, later on with her BSN from Ursuline College in 1985, and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor''s Society for Nursing in 1985. She was a life-long Registered Nurse at Lake Hospital System, ranging from Medical/Surgical and Critical Care Nursing to Nursing Education. She was a major contributor to the development of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in the mid-1980s and the Diabetic Education Program in the late 1980s. In addition, she served as a part-time Clinical Instructor for Lakeland Community College and Bryant & Stratton College for over 20 years, and served as a mentor to large number of current Registered Nurses in the Greater Cleveland area.  Deanna was baptized at the age of twelve, was an active member of the Church of Christ, and dedicated her life to worshipping, teaching, singing, and studying God''s Word on a daily basis. She enjoyed spending time outside gardening, playing with her grandkids, and taking family trips to Disney World. In addition, she always dedicated her life and services to the well-being of everyone around her, and placed their needs before hers. Survivors are her husband, Armen Shockey; her children, Perry (Tamara) Shockey and Randy (Vanessa) Shockey; her grandchildren, Kyle and Veronica Shockey; her mother, Mildred Bartlett; her sister, Loverine (William) Pigott; and other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Bartlett, in 1984. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, ., Mentor, OH 44060. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland, OH. -
