Obituary for Dr. Irfan A Khan

DR. IRFAN A. KHAN

POLAND - Dr. Irfan A. Khan, 68, passed away Monday morning.

He was born April 20, 1946, in India, a son of Abdul Ghani Khan and Wahida Begham.

His family moved to Pakistan where he graduated with a degree in Engineering from Punjab Engineering College as a Gold Medalist. Dr. Khan came to the United States under the east west scholarship and received a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaii in 1974. He then received a Ph.D in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University in 1977 and joined the Civil Engineering Deptartment at Youngstown State University the same year and retired in 2008. During his tenure, he received Distinguished Professor awards in 1981, 1984, and 1998.

In 2002, he was awarded outstanding professor of the year in Civil Engineering. In 1987, he published a book “Fluid Mechanics; He leaves his wife, Akhande Joshi, whom he married in 1974; a daughter, Meena (Steve Mikloucich) Khan; a son, Saleem; two sisters, Saira and Riffat, both of Pakistan; and several nieces and nephews in Pakistan. Two older brothers and two older sisters are deceased. Funeral services are private. Material tributes can be made to the Dr. Irfan A.
