Michelle "Shellie" Powell
Michelle L. "Shellie" Powell, 46, of Akron, Ohio, passed away April 1, 2015, after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
Shellie was born in Akron on June 15, 1968, growing up in Stow. She was a 1986 graduate of Stow High School, and graduated from The University of Akron in 1992 with degrees in Psychology and Sociology. Shellie was an animal lover, and volunteered with many pet organizations over the years; assisting with fund raisers at adoption centers and providing foster care. In 1990 she began work in the field of developmental disabilities; being employed as a case manager for The Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities until retirement in 2008.
Preceding her in death were her father, Mark Powell; sister, Susan Andrews; and grandparents, Marguerite and Kent Powell. Surviving are her mother, Sandra Powell; and fiance, Patrick Donley; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; as well as her beloved pets Pepe, Doodle, Daisy, and Lilly.
A memorial service will be held April 11th, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Stow Alliance Fellowship, 4460 Stow Rd., Stow, OH 44224. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shellie''s memory may be made to The Humane Society of Greater Akron, or One of a Kind Pets.
