Obituary for Henry Arlis Snyder

HENRY ARLIS SNYDER CANFIELD Funeral services will be Monday, April 27, at 1 p.m., at the Smith Corners United Methodist Church, for Henry Arlis Snyder, 86, who passed away Wednesday, April 22, at Shepherd of the Valley. Henry was born July 1, 1928, in Austintown, the son of the late Dale and Merl (Wellendorf) Snyder.
He retired in 1990 after a 42-year career with the Farm Bureau, where he had served in almost every employee position available within the company during his 42 years. When Henry started his career, the company was known as Mahoning Farm Bureau, currently Agland Co-Op. In 1948, he was selling farm machinery in the machinery department and worked in that department until 1952, when a fire destroyed a large part of that business and service was discontinued. From 1967 until 1984, Mr. Snyder ran the grain department and was responsible for a million bushels of grain storage during the peak of demand. After he retired from the Farm Bureau, Henry worked alongside his son, Brian, at Diamond Back Golf Course as a grounds keeper and in the maintenance department.
He enjoyed square dancing with his wife, country music and open-air concerts whenever they could attend, and most of all, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and did so as much as possible. He leaves two sons, Ron (Chris) Snyder of Columbus, and Brian (Becky) Snyder of Ellsworth; six grandchildren, Melissa, Erin, Payton, Nolan, Samantha and Reese; and one sister, Erma Adams of Austintown. Besides his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his wife, the former Leona Mae Davis, whom he married Aug. 18, 1947, and who passed away April 13, 2015; one daughter, Joann Harmon; and one sister, June Simpson. Friends may call on Monday from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the Smith Corners United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512, or to the memorial fund of the Smith Corners United Methodist Church, 3000 S. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown, OH 44515. Arrangements were entrusted to the Lane Family Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel.
