Obituary for Lucille McGinnis

Lucille McGinnis

Lucille McGinnis passed away peacefully at Manor Care of Barberton on February 20, 2015.

She was born in Los Angeles, Calif. August 22, 1926 to the late John and Maggie McGinnis. She then became a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio.

Lucille worked various jobs before beginning her career in dietary at St. Thomas hospital, now known as Summa, where she retired only to continue working thereafter as a laundry attendant because it satisfied her love of meeting and talking to others. Those who knew her loved her humor, quick wit and conversation about her younger days (and boy could she share some stories). Lucille enjoyed watching movies and basketball, especially LeBron James. "Cille" (as she was affectionately called) lived life to the fullest until her health began to fail within the past year.

Lucille was preceded in death by her only child, son, Donald McGinnis Sr.; grandson, Jeffrey Nevels; great- grandson, DaMarcus McGinnis; parents, John and Maggie McGinnis; sisters, Mary McGinnis, Grace McGinnis, and Cheron Wilson, Odessa McGinnis, and Matilda Jarrett.

She is survived by grandchildren, Bruce Caldwell of Decatur Ga., Donald McGinnis Jr., Brandon McGinnis, Tracey McGinnis, Stacey McGinnis; and daughter-in-law, Germaine McGinnis, all of Akron, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Service will be held Friday, February 27, 2015 at 12 Noon at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Rev. Destry Brooks eulogizing and Bishop Langford Floyd officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 823 Fess Ave., Akron, OH 44307.
