Obituary for Stanley J Potkay

STANLEY J. POTKAY SR
 

 

YOUNGSTOWN - Stanley J. Potkay Sr., 65, passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2015.

He was born April 13, 1949, in Trenton, N.J., to the late Leon Sr. and Marion Potkay.

Stan was a 1967 graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School, where he was a member of the swim team. He went on to work as a truck driver for Waid’s Rainbow Rental before retiring in 2013.

Stan married his loving wife, Patricia A. Conroy, on Dec. 18, 1970, and they spent 44 years together happily married.

Stan was a religious man and a member of the Highway Tabernacle Church. He worked for a time with children’s and bus ministries. Stan also enjoyed racing his go-kart on the weekends. He loved holidays celebration’s and traveling around the country with his family. He will be remembered as an avid Browns fan.

Most of all Stan will be known forever as a great husband, father, grandfather, friend, and just an all-around “family man.” 

Left to celebrate his memory are his wife, Patricia A. Potkay; his children, Gretchen (Rex) Crawford, Larissa (Ben) Jantson, Joe (Kelly) Potkay, Josh Potkay, and John Potkay; his grandchildren, Nick, Morgan and Carlie Carwford, Aiden Jantson, and Logan Potkay; his brother Leon Potkay Jr.; and his sisters, Barbara Dougherty, Stephanie Komlos, and Lisa Demski.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice of the Valley for their excellent care. 

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
