Obituary for Frederick W. Tanner

Frederick W. Tanner, an 86 year old Ansonia resident and husband to Margaret Alexander Tanner, passed away Dec. 1. He was born Feb. 9, 1928 in Ansonia, son of the late Alfred & Marion Nearing Tanner. He worked as a self employed plumber and was a lifelong member of The Eagle Hose Fire Co. in Ansonia. He also served as their Captain and was the oldest living former Fire Chief. He was an associate member of the Webster Hose Fire Co., member of The CT Fire Fighters Association and CFA Irregulars. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea; and was a member of The First Baptist Church in Ansonia. He also served as assistant Scout Master at Christ Episcopal Church Troop #4. He is survived by 3 sons, Frederick W. Tanner Jr. & his wife Marion of Uncasville, CT., James S. Tanner of Ansonia, Craig A. Tanner & his wife Donna of Beacon Falls, 2 daughters, Cheryl M. Tanner of Beacon Falls, Jane M. Tanner of East Hartland, CT., and 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Alfred Tanner & sister Elizabeth Hoffer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 at 11:00 a.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. (http://fh/) Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
