Obituary for Robert Samargia

YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church for Robert M. Samargia, 68, who passed away early Friday morning at his home.

Robert was born Oct. 23, 1946, in Rochester, Pa., a son of the late Milo and Jane (Anderson) Samargia.

Robert graduated from Hopewell High School and Allegheny Technical Institute in Pittsburgh. He was employed for 34 years at United Foundries, and then became an independent insurance agent. He was a devoted member of the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. Robert was also a member of the American Legion Post 301. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid sports enthusiast. He always loved attending his grandchildren’s events.

Robert leaves his wife, Regina L. Sterling, whom he married July 20, 1968; daughter Leigh A. (Greg) Pflug of Austintown; son Todd M. (Kati) Samargia of Plainfield, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Deryn (Matthew) Hamley, Dylan Samargia, Alyssa Pflug, Chandler Samargia, Brevin Samargia, Zachary Pflug, Zander Samargia, Greyson Samargia, and Logan Samargia; a great granddaughter, Mila Hamley; and sisters-in-law, Donna Atwell of S.C., Kathie (Gary) Grimes of Texas and Beverly (Thomas) Lang of Columbus.

Robert was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Lily Sterling.

Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel and Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.

Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
