YOUNGSTOWN - A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Thomas McWhorter will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the J.E. Washington Funeral Home. Mr. McWhorter departed this life Oct. 17, 2014, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.

Mr. McWhorter was born May 30, 1951, in Youngstown, a son of Arthur and Leola Adair-Clark McWhorter.

He attended South High School and was formerly employed as a chef with Four Season’s Restaurant.

Thomas attended the Greater Friendship Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and playing chess with his close friend, Jimmy Mitchell. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling to Birmington, Wash. to spend time with his sister and her family. He was a loving husband, father and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Eileen Greene McWhorter, whom he married July 17, 1976, of Youngstown; his children, Thomas (Vanessa) McWhorter Jr. of Hermitage, Pa., Jason McWhorter of Youngstown, Jacquelyn (Leslie) McWhorter-Keller of Masury, Doasia (Eric) Johnson of Youngstown, and Shantell (Lester) Hughes of Campbell; his sisters, Sarah Thurston of Youngstown, and Mattie Green of Girard; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph McWhorter; his sister, Louise McWhorter; and a grandson, Leslie Keller Jr.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
