James H. Gaffney Jr.
James H. Gaffney Jr., 84, of Cuyahoga Falls passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at his home with his family after a long battle with Parkinson''s Disease.
Born January 13, 1930 he was the son of James Sr. and Jessie (Wilt) Gaffney. James is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Katherine, Charles and Gerry (Aunt Jo).
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gerry (Fair); their children, James (Lucy) of Roanoke, Va., Terri of Akron, Ohio, Debbie (Mike) of Edinburg, Ohio and Douglas (Berni) of Stow, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After working for 40 years at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Jim retired and spent numerous winters in Florida with Gerry, becoming "snow birds". Jim and Gerry continued their love of traveling that began after starting a family, traveling through all of the states of the union and beyond.
Jim served his country during the Korean War in the Old Guard 3rd Infantry U.S. Army stationed at Fort Myers, Va.
Jim lived his life the way Christ wanted him to: humble, kind, loving and a friend to all.
He was dedicated to his Church, serving as an usher and using his abilities as a carpenter to help construct the alter and various other projects. He built his family home with his own two hands and practically every piece of furniture it held. It is a loving home full of warmth and laughter.
Jim was a hard worker, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Family meant the world to him.
We hope you will join the family on Friday, October 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 810 Portage Tr. in Cuyahoga Falls, and on Saturday, where Pastor Bob Stephens will officiate services at 10a.m. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson''s Foundation, www.parkinson.org.
