G. Louise Maccioli

 

(nee Norling) born Oct. 8, 1926 in Massillon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael A. Maccioli as well as her father and mother, Elmer and Elizabeth Norling; sisters, Geraldine Norling and Sadie Reichel all of Massillon, Ohio, and nephew, George A. Reichel. She is survived by her nephew, Richard Reichel; great-nephews, Tony, Jimmy, Robert, Christopher (April); niece, Amy Lynch; four great-great-nephews, and the deeply loved daughter she never had, her niece Carol Reichel. Louise was employed by Ekco Housewares Inc. at the Canton and Massillon Plant from 1955 to 1996 as employment manager and human resources manager. After retirement from Ekco she was a dispatcher for Buckeye Protective Service from 1999 to 2003. She graduated from Washington High School in 1944. She attended Canton Actual Business College and George Washington University in Washington D.C. Louise was one of the first women to join the regular Marine Corps in 1949. She served for ten years and attained the rank of Major. She was assigned by the commanding general of Parris Island, South Carolina to be the first woman officer to be assigned as executive of a predominantly male contingent at Headquarters Company at Parris Island. She was very proud of her accomplishments as a United States Marine. Louise served with pleasure as president of the Junior Women''s Club of Louisville, Ohio from 1969 to 1970. Louise had many beloved friends over the years sharing good times and bad. She especially enjoyed playing poker and loved music, puppies and kittens. Services with military honors were held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. Harris from St. Timothy''s Church gave the eulogy.
