Obituary for Marvin Swartz

DR. MARVIN SWARTZ

CANFIELD - Dr. Marvin Swartz, 91, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014.

Marvin was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Youngstown, the son of the late Max and Frieda (Pollack) Swartz.

Marvin graduated South High School in 1940, at which time he went on to Youngstown State University (Youngstown College in 1947) to receive his Bachelor’s Degree, and earned his D.D.S. from The Ohio State University Dental School in 1947.

Marvin owned and operated his own dental practice for nearly 30 years, until his retirement in 1983. In his retirement he enjoyed outdoor activities with his wife, Martha, at his farm in Canfield. When not working his farm, Marvin and Martha, along with close friends, traveled the country in Marvin’s prized GMC motor home. He also was an active participant at the Canfield Fair dental booth for more than 35 years.

Marvin served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as a dentist and Captain. He attended the Pleasant Grove United Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, and was a member of the Corydon Palmer Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the VFW post 14000 and 15036.

Marvin married the love of his life, Martha (Myers) Swartz, on March 20, 1946, who died on Aug. 7, 2008.

Marvin will be deeply missed by his two sons, James (Carol) Swartz and John (Patricia) Swartz; granddaughter Jennifer (Chris) Bachelder; and two great-grandchildren, Paxton and Natasha Bachelder.

A private service will be held for Marvin at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes be made to Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509.
