Mary F. Townsend, 89, passed away September 27, 2014.
She was born in Akron to the late Samuel and Thelma (Clark) Townsend and was a 1942 Garfield High School graduate. Mary retired from BFGoodrich with 31 years of service in the payroll department, was a member of St. Andrew''s Episcopal Church of Barberton, and was a long-time former member of St. Peter''s Episcopal Church. She was an avid golfer, traveling to play throughout the country, and was a die-hard Indians and Browns fan.
Preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Harris and brother, Sam "Bud" Townsend, she is survived by her niece, Brenda (George) Glaze; their children, Bret (Karen), Lori (Les) Neel and Brian; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Brittany, Kelly and Dustin.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Esther Rehmus for her wonderful care of Mary.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 591 W. Hopocan Ave., Barberton, OH 44203, with Fr. Michael Petrochuk officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of VNS, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
