Obituary for Shirley A. Greenfelder

age 90, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Country Lawn Nursing Home near Navarre. She was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Canton, the daughter of her late father, Eugene McGuire, and mother and step father, Ruth (Shrake) and Howard Leach. Shirley was in the Class of 1942 at Massillon Washington High School, a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Canton, a Past State Present and Nation Secretary of Amvet''s Auxiliary, life member of Amvets Auxiliary #12 Massillon, and a co-founder of the Perry Adult Booster Club. She was also a member of the Massillon Women''s Club for many years. She retired from Massillon Community Hospital in 1987 where she was a Personnel Director for 28 years and previously manager of the Hospitality Shop when it was built in the new addition on Amherst Road. After retirement she lived in Florida for 13 years but returned to her beloved Massillon in 2002. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Moore. Shirley is survived by sons, Jeff (Charlotte) Greenfelder of Navarre, Dan (Jan) Greenfelder of Canton, Greg (Leslie) Greenfelder of Jackson Twp.; five grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Jason, Justin, Leigh; four great-grandchildren, Grant, Kayla, Shane, and Dylan.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Her final resting place will be Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon. Shirley will be remembered for her love of family, kindness and leadership abilities. The family would like to thank the staff at Sterling House, Country Lawn, and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care during her long illness.
