Helen M. Hamilton
Helen M. Hamilton, 95, passed away peacefully July 7, 2014 with her husband and daughter by her side.
She was born in Akron on September 20, 1918 to the late George and Ella (Shaulis) Swartz, went to Findley Grade School and was a 1937 graduate of North High School.
She leaves to mourn her memory her husband of 65 years, Richard; daughter, Susan (David) Banghart; grandchildren, Christopher (fiancée Noel) and Kali (Jake) Hurry; great-grandson, Jacoby; niece, Dorothy (Ron) Berish; nephew, Larry (Bobbie) Hamilton; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters.
Helen started the Chattin Hatton newsletter at Hatton Grade School and was a Charter member of the Merry Makers of the Yusef Khan Ladies Grotto. She was a licensed hair dresser for 60 years, serving as Vice President of the National Hair Dressers Association in Akron. She was also a Sunday School teacher at the junior church at North Hill Christian Church and was the oldest living member of Wedgewood United Methodist Church.
Helen was a 50-year member of the Daughters of America, and belonged to the Phi Mu Mothers Club and the Sunshine Garden Club.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Dr. Mark Smith and Helen''s Summa nurses, Kim and Tara.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 12 at 1 p.m. at Wedgewood United Methodist Church, 2350 Wedgewood Dr., with Pastor Joe Burkhardt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service, from 12 to 1 p.m. Interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
