Obituary for Walter F. Sr. Squires

Walter F. Squires Sr., 77, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2014 at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Gertrude Ciravola Squires. Mr. Squires was born in New Haven on July 11, 1936, son of the late Walter and Katherine Vendetto Squires. A resident of Ansonia since 1960, he was employed as the manager of John Hancock Life insurance in Stratford for many years. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for All-Star Transportation. A proud United States Air Force veteran, he honorably served during the Korean Conflict. Walter enjoyed playing the piano, painting, and especially vacationing with his family in Wildwood, NJ. In addition to his wife Gertrude, he is survived by a loving son, Walter F. Squires Jr., a loving daughter, Elaine Battaglino (Robert) all of Ansonia, three sisters, Barbara Stomboli of North Haven, Patricia Vollono (Louis) of Killingworth, and Maureen Landry of Wallingford, three cherished grandchildren, Robert Battaglino, Biannca Squires and Brittany Squires, several nieces and nephews and canine buddy Dino. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday (TODAY) July 9, 2014, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECK FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, his funeral will be held at 10:45 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Air Force military honors will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
