Rita "Jean" (Walters) Buechler

Rita Jean Buechler, age 92, passed away peacefully September 29th, 2013.

Jean, as she was called, was born January 9, 1921 in Akron, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry David Walters; mother, Bess (Scanlon) Walters; sisters, Ruth Marie (Lewis) Walters and Rosaline (Ferraro) Walters; brother, Arthur Paul Walters; son, Gerald David Buechler; and husband, Harry Buechler, Jr.

Jean is survived by son, Thomas Paul; daughter, Patricia Ann (Creston) Mapes; and grandchildren, Michael Sean Buechler, JoAnn Buechler (Gregory) Marsh, Abigail Jean Mapes, Hannah Kathryn Mapes, Esther Mary Mapes and Creston Paul Mapes.

Jean shared 69 years of loving marriage with Harry before his death earlier this year. Jean lived a rich life and she cherished the affection of her friends and neighbors. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and proud to be called a homemaker. Jean loved to read and work in her yard. She volunteered as a Candy Striper at Akron Children''s Hospital and as a Bath Volunteer. She was an embroiderer, a ceramics maker and especially proud of her days hiking in the Cuyahoga Valley with girlfriends. She was adored by her grandchildren. Grandma Jean was one of a kind. Her impish smile and playful nature will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The
