Charles E. Jones "Charley"

Charles E. Jones "Charley" passed away May 24, 2014 at the age of 96.

He was born December 29, 1917 in Union-springs, Ala. to the late Ernest S. Jones and Anna M. Battle. He was raised in Youngstown, Ohio and graduated from East High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.

He moved to Akron, Ohio in 1943 and started working at B.F. Goodrich Company retiring after 36 years. He took up roller skating for exercise which he continued at Brunswick, Barberton and Medina, Ohio in the Adult morning sessions. He was the oldest one at the Rinks. He was a member of Second Baptist Church for 50 years, Local #5 Union, B.F.G. Credit Union and YMCA.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest S. Jones and Anna M. Battle; and his late wife of 40 years, Lillian H. Jones.

He is survived by his brother, Floyd E. Jones, of Youngstown, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Bessie L. Tolliver, of Tempe, Ariz., and Helen Fikes, of Akron, Ohio; special niece and nephew, Diane Fikes (Gregory) Smith; special friends, Louis Barnes and Beatrice Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 12 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307. Entombment Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form at the funeral home and condolences may be sent to 523 Stonewood Dr., Akron, OH 44313.
