Obituary for Elinor Lovegrove

Elinor M. Lovegrove, age 97, wife of the late John W. Lovegrove, formerly of Seymour and a resident at Gardner Heights in Shelton, passed away May 4, 2014. She was born May 31, 1916 in Los Angeles, CA, daughter of the late Joseph & Mayflower Flood Powelson. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago where she met the love of her life John, and they married April 15, 1939. She was an accomplished artist and sculptor producing a number of plaques of renowned golfers that are on display at the Golf Hall of Fame at Hilton Head. She was engaged to restore the historic Newsboy statue located in Great Barrington, MA. She worked as a freelance sculptor for Medallic Art of Danbury producing a number of medals including a Gov. Ella Grasso commemorative medal and for International Silver Company. She is survived by her son Michael Lovegrove of Ocala, FL., & Glynis Powanda & her husband William of Seymour, grandchildren Matthew Powanda (and his wife Gloria) of Prospect and Christopher Powanda (and his wife Aja) of Waterbury and great grandchildren Zachary, Joshua & Farren Powanda, Michelle Jean Lovegrove & Travis & Scott Lovegrove. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held May 31st at 10:00 a.m. on her 98th birthday at The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends should go directly to Assumption Church for the funeral mass.
