Obituary for Catherine R. Hyatt

Catherine R. Hyatt

At 6:15 a.m., Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014, our precious, beloved mother took her last breath while surrounded by family.

Catherine R. Hyatt was born Feb. 29, 1920 to Charles D. Ford and Mamie L. (Roberts) Ford. She attended Akron Public Schools, graduating from West High School.

Catherine worked a variety of jobs including preparing food at the YWCA, working at B.F. Goodrich during World War II, and doing domestic work for several prominent families in Akron. Mom went on to put herself through nursing school, and was then employed at Barberton Citizen''s Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Her favorite thing was being a great mother. Being very involved with our education, and was often the "class room mother" for us, and an active member of Henry Elementary School PTA, President of the Summit County Council of PTA, and regional PTA representative, the "Savings Stamp Lady" at Henry School, a Central-Hower Band Booster parent, Head Marm at the Old Stone School, and Central Community Club Director.

Catherine accepted Christ at a young age, and was a member of several churches through the years.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mamie Ford; husband, Winfred Hyatt; infant son and granddaughter, Mamie (Tootie) Hyatt.

Continuing her legacy are daughters, Audrey D. Hyatt, of Cleveland, Ohio, Deborah Hyatt, and Patricia Hyatt-Jackson, of Akron; grandchildren, Audrah (Saul) Hyatt-Luna of Jacksonville, Fla., Christopher Hyatt, Chimere Jackson, Kristyl (James) Farrell, Kristyn Jackson (fiancée, Quamaine Stewart), and Chaudralyn Bell, all of Akron; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Last, but not least, her loving "baby boy", Bolt her Shih Tzu.
