Jane L. Reynolds 1917 - 2014 | Obituary | Condolences Jane L. Reynolds Obituary Jane L. Reynolds Jane L. Reynolds of Streetsboro passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 after a brief illness. Jane was born in the home on her family farm in Streetsboro on July 7, 1917. The farm stretched back four generations and she was the youngest daughter of Fred and Alice Burroughs. Growing up on the farm, her love for it continued throughout her adult life and in 1978 she and her late husband, Royal O. Reynolds moved back and passionately renovated the house and the out buildings and eagerly continued the maple syrup production and modest farming. She loved the land and the family''s deep history and never tired of sharing stories of her great grandfather''s walk from New Hampshire in 1816 to settle in the new state of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ardis Moyer; and her two brothers, Willis K. and Dan. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Edward) Tywon of Alexander City, Alabama and Claudia (Donald) Mathias of Andover, Massachusetts. She had seven grandchildren, Cathy (Tim) Bennett, Robert (Kim) Sponseller, Mary (Wayne) Gauer, Mark Sponseller, Dan (Melinda) Sponseller, Donald Mathias, Gretchen (Craig) Toney; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat grandchildren; and two step- great-great-grandchildren. Returning to college after raising her daughters, Jane earned her degree in education from Kent State University in 1966 and embarked on a rewarding career teaching third grade at Dewitt elementary school in Cuyahoga Falls for the next twenty years. She was active in the Delta Gamma sorority and the Ohio State Retired Teachers Association. She was the oldest member of the Streetsboro High School Alumni Association. Being a cancer survivor, Jane participated in the Reach for Recovery Program and was a board member of the Portage County Visiting Nurse Association from 1984 to 1990. One of her most endearing associations was with the Old Dominion Chapter of the Daughter''s of the American Revolution. Throughout her participation she held numerous offices including Regent and loved her country and its bountiful freedoms. A lifelong Methodist, Jane belonged to the Streetsboro Methodist Church and enjoyed the Riverside group. Over the years she relished her many groups including Ladies of the Club and bridge club. Always active, Jane loved sewing. From making her daughters clothes, including wedding dresses, she even made majorette uniforms for her husband''s high school bands. She loved gardening especially canning and preserving the harvest. Jane was passionate about music, she played the violin and piano and said she always had a song in her thoughts. She endeared herself to enumerable friends and loved their company. She loved traveling and traveled extensively throughout the country culminating with Alaska and a trip to Europe. But most of all she loved to walk in her maple woods (Sugarbush) experiencing the changing seasons and all the vibrant colors and scenes. Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 14th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15th with Rev. Byron George officiating.
