Obituary for Edward John Yoder

Edward J. Yoder, 90, Kutztown, died Nov. 10, 2006, in Kutztown Manor, where he was a patient since May.

He was the husband of Miriam P. "Mim" (Eck) Yoder, who died April 15, 2006.

Born in Temple on Sept. 24, 1916, he was a son of the late John E. and Bertha (Staver) Yoder.

He was a furnace operator at the former Kawecki Beryllium Foundry, Temple, for 30 years until his retirement in 1982, and was a full fashion knitter at the former Rosedale Knitting Mill, Laureldale, for 20 years.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was also a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Oak-leaf Cluster medal recipient, having served in Headquarters Company, Second Battalion, 16th Infantry, where he saw service in Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.

He was a member of the Reading-Berks Basketball Old-Timers Organization, Reading.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane L. (Yoder), wife of Timothy A. Haring, Kutztown.

Other survivors include a sister, Esther (Yoder), widow of John Conrad, Riverview Park; and two brothers, Norman L. Yoder, Boyertown; and Leroy I. Yoder, Laureldale.

There are also two grandsons, Thomas M., husand of Tammy J. (Jenkins) Haring, Fleetwood; and William E. Haring, Kutztown; and two great-granddaughters, Kiana D. and Tara J. Haring.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, 201 E. Main St., Kutztown, with the Rev. James L. Dunn officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Home, 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown, and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the church.

The family requests contributions be made to the memorial fund of St. John's Lutheran Church, 201 E. Main St., Kutztown, PA 19530.
